The Union was formed sometimes back in 1951 as Painters and Decorators Workers union . Later in 27th June 1952 it changed its name to East African Federation of Building and Construction Workers Union and the late Mr. Arthur Ochwada was the First National General Secretary.
The Union changed it’s name after Kenya acquired independence in 1963 under the leadership of the late John Wangoru Murugu who was the second National General Secretary.
The East African Federation of Building and Construction Workers Union was changed to Kenya Building, Construction and Civil Engineering Workers Union which acquired both Recognition and Collective Bargaining Agreement with Kenya Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors.
It also acquired Regulation of Wages in Building and Construction Industry Order in order to cater for employees who are employed by employers who may not be members of the Kenya Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors.
In 1988 the Union was merged with another Trade Union which was representing workers in the timber and furniture industry and under the leadership of the late Mr. David Matheru who was the National General Secretary of Kenya Timber and Furniture Workers Union and achieved the recognition and Collective Bargaining Agreement with Timber Industries Employers Association.
With the new development, the Union changed its name inorder to accommodate the workers engaged in timber and furniture industries. The current name is Kenya Building, Construction, Timber, and Furniture Industries Employees Union.
The Union elected Mr. Francis K. Murage to be the National General Secretary after the along illness of late John Wangoru Murugu in the year 2001.
Over the years the union have achieved Recognition Agreements and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) with both Associations of Employers in Construction Sector and Timber Industries and individuals employers.
Julius Macharia Maina is the current National General Secretary of the Union.
